Watch for the Signs of Readiness

Watch for the Signs of Readiness

The biggest thing about potty training is knowing when your child is ready. It’s not just about an age; you need to know the signs of readiness, because if they aren’t ready, it’s not going to happen.

It may start as simple curiosity. I remember when my toddler started announcing that she wanted to watch my when I used the bathroom. I thought it was a really strange request, but then I realized that it was the first bit of interest she showed in the toilet.

Turns out this is very common for kids who are starting to ready themselves for potty training. And while it may seem like a slight invasion of privacy to let your toddler watch you on the toilet, it’s an important step to helping them learn more about the process.

Other signs are a bit more obvious. You may notice that your little one starts requesting diaper changes as soon as they’ve soiled themselves or they may even start coming to you before they’ve actually gone, both of which are telltale signs that it’s time to ditch the diapers.
